Meet our award winning Brisbane team
MJT Law specialises in employment law and advice, serving businesses and employees across Brisbane, Australia and Worldwide. Founded in 2014, our mission was to provide top-tier expertise alongside the personal service of a boutique practice, for all areas of employment and labour law.
We are a tight-knit team of highly motivated professionals, working hard to deliver “advice that’s right for you”. Our culture embodies that mission through our core values, which filter through our work.
The Australian commercial landscape is diverse with multinationals, SME’s and owner operators. Our clients are in businesses, or employed in businesses, in all of these sectors. Our work and values have been recognised through accolades such as the Doyles Guide awards and various client testimonials.
Melanie Thorley – Director
After graduating from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) I then completed my Masters of Law (LLM) with Queensland University of Technology. In 2014 I opened MJT Law that is thriving today. I have a number of interests including bike riding and beekeeping. I have two cats, two dogs and four native Australian beehives.
My dogs come to the office each day and my cats visit from time to time. Their favourite activity is playing fetch and riding with me on my bicycle. Like most New Zealander’s, I love being outdoors and when my husband I go canoeing we bring our dogs along for the ride.
I have lived in 11 countries and visited many more, I believe in the right to have proper legal representation and have incorporated this view into MJT Law through our pro bono work. Our pro bono practice saw hundreds of clients and gave away over $100,000 of free legal advice in 2018/2019.

Phoebe Lee – Marketing Coordinator
Originally from Malaysia, I was originally given an opportunity to assist MJT Law as a Legal Secretary while studying at QUT. I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Communication (Digital Media) and am now a Masters Student at DW Akademie. I am happy to be dedicating my efforts with MJT Law to improving communication between clients and our team as a marketing coordinator.
I have worked in four countries thus far, and I pride my ability to be adaptable and capable.

Bradley Mason – Dog Walker
I am a Qualified Cabinet Maker and joined MJT Law in July 2022 as the official Dog Walker for the MJT Law Security Officers: Ebay and Seymour.
I was born in Brisbane and am a passionate fisherman, gardener and family man, with a genuine love and connection with dogs.
When I am not fishing out at Burrum Heads catching Bream, Flathead and mudcrabs, I am enjoying spending quality time with my wife and with my own dog a male American x English Staffordshire Terrier, as well as supporting the Lions.

Woof! Woof! Bark! We love cuddles, playing with my toys, Melanie, eating and chasing Ebay and my brothers, Chewy and Schrodinger.
We are very excited to be given this opportunity to serve MJT Law as security officers! We will do our best to protect and attack! Woof!

Chewy & Schrodinger – Morale Managers
We have been tasked to maintain peace at MJT Law since February 2019. Our hobbies are to cause mischief and take cat naps.
We understand that there is a stereotype of cats being independent, but since Meowlanie adopted us, we can’t be without her!
